THEY CAN CUT ALL THE FLOWERS

BUT THEY CAN'T STOP THE SPRING

Juin 2021

Wooden tripod, ceramics, recycled helmets, painted banners, soundscape, video.

The walls of Maison Descartes are protecting a garden nesting wild plants left untouched for years. This vegetal oasis is threatened by architectural projects devising its desertification. A JAD - Jardin A Defendre has been installed in the precious ecosystem that is now occupied by furtives standing as lookouts. Furtives are hybrid creatures that relate in absolute symbiosis to their environment and rightfully became a symbol of environmental activism. “They are a mix between plant, animal, and mineral which is for me the ideal of what humanity could be” explains Alain Damasio.

A tripod was raised to block the access of any machinery coming to destroy the garden. The eviction must not occur.

A stilt-walker wanders through the occupied space.

Her hybrid body oscillates between human curves and tree branches, she might also be furtive.

Through the combination of artificial, hand-made, and organic objects, these sculptures take the shape of hybrid creatures whose forms explore the impact of natural relationships in the evolutionary process. Now acting as inhabitants and silent guardians of this garden, these creatures become furtives themselves. Frozen in time, their forms speculate a different future, where artificial and natural blur into one.
