PARADE FOR A RED OAK

January 2018

Metal structures and latex banners hung on the branches of a tree by hemp ropes.
Transcription video of a performance, installation in Meyrin.

A red oak tree in winter, overlooking the valley leading to the forest behind which is located Genva airport where Zadist demonstrations for the protection of the trees of the commune took place recently.
These people come to act a ceremony, a meditative prayer to strengthen the oak and encourage his growth.

They installed metal structures on the four sides of the tree to form a carousel. Two structures turn on themselves, symbolizing the spiral growth movement of the tree. Two other structures are ladders allowing access to the port of the tree where the banners will be hung.

By unrolling theme they let appear horses procession as on antique friezes exalting imperial powers. These oating streamers will be set in motion by the four climbers hold the reins, they draw the wind in these banners, representing the four cardinal points. The tensions and vibrations created transmit their energy to the tree.
However, without being conscient of it, their actions are similar to dressage: they harness the tree like a horse as the harnassed horses shows it : symbolising nature tamed by humans.
